Even with an x-large clarity ward etc cpu is a bit too tight ,i feel, for a proper shield tank on tempest(could do with loads of named shield boost amps and cruise launchers to start dropping to help that little extra).
On a long range set up (IIRC) you can fit 4x 1400mm's and 4x siege launchers and armor tank, using 1 large and one medium armor repairer and an RCU 2. This doeasnt leave much room for damage mods and offensively struggles a bit but can run both armor repairers on auto if mids are filled with cap rech 2's.
Close range armor tank is ok but the increased grid of siege launchers means it is not as good to set up as b4 recent changes and fitting 800mm's is a pain and i think it is better to use dual 650's now as they have been improved, or even dual 425's if you need extra grid to fit some heavy nosferatu's (although dual 425's chew through ammo which is important if you cant carry much cos you have 800 booster charges in cargo too).
Another problem is the lack of low slots cos Tempest does feel exposed if using armor defence with out a 1600mm plate imo cos of low base armor.
So Tempest is versatile, but this is it's downfall atm imo cos another ship can do what the tempest can do only better.

A few named items is all you need. I solo large battleship spawns in 0.0 easily. Unless you do or have flown one how can you offer an opinion?
Most NPC set ups don't run into fitting problems cos it's easier to fit...
